Burt, celebrated his 70th birthday on August 26, 1901 than did he set out to employ a portion of his lumber wealth in the awakening beet sugar industry. Sugarbeet factories in the first days of the 20th century created excitement of the kind that would not again be seen until the dot.com craze that swept the nation nearly a century later.
